What's already changing on a cattle farm?
Sensors and cameras that flag when a cow is close to calving or in heat are already common on many operations, sparing someone from walking the herd every few hours. What still needs a person is feeding, sorting, and physically handling animals many times your size — cutting hired labor for that work is judged to arrive only much later, long after the camera systems became routine.
Why does handling cattle stay a human job?
Moving a herd through a chute, judging by a cow's stance and gait whether it's sick, and mending a fence line in bad weather all call for a body that can react and adapt on rough ground.
