AI impact · ShrinkingCustomer Experience (CX) Manager: what AI changes and what stays
A customer experience manager's job is less about running surveys and more about walking into another department's meeting, uninvited in spirit if not in fact, to convince them their process is the reason customers are unhappy.
What CX work does AI already produce?
Summarizing customer feedback, mapping out a customer's journey through the company, and drafting the insight report that used to take an analyst days are already strong AI tasks. YOU'RE NEXT reads this as shrinking the analysis side of the team while leaving the persuasion side largely intact, since a report on its own doesn't change how another department behaves.
Why does changing a customer process still need a person?
Interviewing customers directly to find the complaint they never put into words, persuading another team to actually change a process that affects customers, and handling an escalation that needs real executive judgment are not things a report settles by itself. Getting people who don't report to you to change how they work is a human negotiation, not a data problem.
What should someone in CX focus on as AI covers the analysis?
Let AI produce the first draft of the insight report, and spend your own time in the room persuading the department that actually has to change. Practicing how to interview a customer for what they're not saying, and building credibility with other teams, is where this job is actually heading.
