Why is studio work disappearing faster than live work?
AI can now generate a convincing instrumental part for a recording without hiring a musician to play it, which is quickly cutting the session and studio work that used to support many working instrumentalists. That change doesn't touch a concert hall or a live stage, where a real ensemble still has to actually play together in the room.
What does live performance need that a recording doesn't?
Playing live depends on technique built over years of practice, but also on breathing and timing together with other musicians on stage and adjusting to how a specific hall sounds and feels in the moment. None of that exists in a studio recording, which is why this work is narrowing toward orchestras and live shows rather than disappearing outright.
