IT Operations Manager (CIO): what AI changes and what stays

Running IT day to day used to need a manager for every shift of people watching systems and responding to tickets. AIOps tools now handle a lot of that routine monitoring, which is shrinking how many managers a company needs — though someone still has to lead the room when a system actually goes down.

What does AIOps already take off a manager's plate?

Watching systems for routine problems and routing routine tickets to the right team is exactly the work AIOps tools now do well on their own, and because that monitoring used to justify a layer of managers overseeing shift after shift, fewer managers are needed once it runs itself. That shrinkage happens at the team level before anything about the top job changes.

Why does IT leadership still need a person?

Leading the room during an actual outage or a security breach, negotiating a vendor's contract and holding them to it, and convincing executives to spend money on a risk nobody can see yet all take a person with judgment and standing, not a dashboard.
