A medical scribe's entire job is listening to a visit and writing it up. An AI system that listens and drafts the note is now built directly into many clinics' record systems, which leaves very little of this job standing on its own.
What replaced the scribe's core task?

If there's no license involved, what still needs a person?

That review step is quick compared with writing the note from scratch, which is exactly why a dedicated scribe next to every clinician is hard to justify now.
What should a working scribe do instead of waiting this out?
Move toward the skills the note-taking was always training you in: following clinical reasoning closely enough to catch when an AI draft gets the story wrong, and translating between patients and clinicians in the room. A related path like medical assisting keeps you patient-facing rather than purely documentation-facing, which is the part of this job least likely to be absorbed.
