Mold & Die Maker: what AI changes and what stays

Planning how a machine will cut a mold is now largely software's job, AI-driven programs can lay out a cutting path faster than a person. What still needs a hand is the finishing: polishing a surface down to a fraction of a hair's width, and fixing a mold's flaws after the first test run.

What's already handled by software here?

Software that plans exactly how a cutting tool should move, and programs that plan the overall order of building a mold, now absorb much of the design-side work that used to take a skilled person hours. That's shrinking the design and programming side of a toolmaking shop first.

Why doesn't finishing shrink the same way?

Polishing a die surface down to a few microns, a fraction of a hair's width, by feel still needs a trained hand, and no software fixes a mold on the spot after a test run reveals burrs or defects.
