Why does mold design move to AI before mold-making itself?

What should someone training in mold engineering focus on?
Since reading first shots and hand-feel die tuning are the parts of this trade expected to last the longest, time spent at the press with an experienced toolmaker is worth more than CAD fluency alone, since design software is exactly what's moving to AI first. This work is usually learned through that kind of shop-floor apprenticeship rather than a specific degree.
