Business Analyst: what AI changes and what stays

A business analyst's day used to center on running a requirements workshop and getting a stakeholder to sign off before anything got built. Agents already draft the paperwork; the room itself is what's left.

What part of this job do AI agents already do?

Turning a meeting transcript into a requirements document, sketching a process map, writing basic SQL, and building a dashboard are all things an agent can now produce in minutes from raw notes. That's already pulled a lot of the writing-heavy side of the job away from a person doing it by hand.

What's left for a person to actually do?

Someone still has to sit in the room where a sales lead and an engineer each swear the other one doesn't understand the request, and pull out what both sides actually need before anything gets built. There's no license for this work, so what makes someone hard to replace is simply being trusted in that room.

How should someone in this role adapt?

A voluntary credential exists but isn't required, so the more useful habit is reviewing an AI-drafted requirements document line by line and pushing back on what it quietly assumed. Getting good at running a meeting where people disagree, and asking the question nobody wants to answer, matters more than writing from a blank page.
