A fire protection engineer's real work happens on-site: walking a finished building to physically test sprinklers and alarms, and sometimes standing face-to-face with an owner who wants to cut corners on safety to save money or time.
What part of fire protection design is AI already doing?
AI tools can now draft a sprinkler layout and run the hydraulic calculations that size the pipes and pumps, work that used to take an engineer hours to do by hand. That's shrinking the design side of the job, but it doesn't touch the parts that happen inside an actual building — a licensed engineer's stamp of approval and hands-on inspection of the finished system.
