Most states require a national radiation-therapy license to be the person running that console, and professional accreditation guidelines also expect a qualified therapist present for every treatment.

A radiologic-technology background is the usual entry point, and building real fluency with the auto-planning and positioning software — not just the older manual workflow — makes a therapist the one trusted to run a room solo. Since a treatment room now needs fewer people, being the therapist other staff rely on for judgment calls matters more than before.
