UX / Interaction Design: how AI affects graduate hiring

UX design work splits into producing mockups and prototypes, and researching what users actually need. AI builders can already generate screen designs, working prototypes, and simple landing pages that used to be junior-designer work, while talking to real users and deciding what trade-offs to make remain a senior designer's job.

What UX tasks can AI builders already do?

AI tools can already generate screen mockups, clickable prototypes, and the markup for a simple landing page, which is exactly the production work agencies and product teams used to hire junior designers to handle. That cuts into entry-level hiring directly. Sitting down with a real user to understand their actual problem, and deciding which feature idea is worth building, stay with more senior people.

Why does UX design shrink earlier than some other design fields?

UX and web design both involve producing digital screens and markup, which is exactly the output AI builders are now good at generating directly. There is also no license protecting these roles the way there is in some other fields.
