Cosmetic Chemist: what AI changes and what stays

Formulating a new lotion or serum used to mean a chemist mixing dozens of trial batches by hand. Increasingly, software proposes the formula and a robot mixes it — what's left for a person is putting it on real skin and deciding whether it actually feels and smells right.

What should someone in this field build up?

A chemistry or cosmetic-science background is the usual entry point, often starting as a lab technician mixing and testing formulas before moving to designing them. Because AI increasingly proposes the formula itself, the skill worth sharpening is sensory judgment — training your own sense of texture and scent well enough to evaluate an AI's suggestion quickly, rather than competing with the software on the mixing step.
