What doesn't move as fast is the legal step at the end: a boundary survey has to be signed off by a state-licensed surveyor before it counts, and that requirement isn't going away.

Why does a person still have to sign off?

That license and stamp exist specifically so someone accountable stands behind a property line, and no state has set a minimum crew size that would force early cuts either way. In practice, what stays is a licensed surveyor walking rough terrain to set up instruments and, often, negotiating a boundary dispute face to face with a landowner.
